Artistic journey

My journey as an artist has evolved over several years. I studied animation arts at university and fell in love with anthropomorphism and movement. After graduating I worked in several different roles but found it quite tiring working under creative direction. I turned my back on art and pursued other avenues of work gaining varied life experiences.

Around 2018 I began to get back into art working on paper with pen and ink. In 2020/2021 I began to explore oil paint and have fun experimenting with shapes, forms and the blending/blurring of the subject with the background. I was exploring the ideas of the subject being lost and not completely idealised, almost growing out of the environment. I started off with birds as this was a subject I was more familiar with. More examples of this work can be found here.

I really enjoyed this idea of a representation of the subject where the lines between subject and environment are blurred. From 2022 I worked part time so I could spend more time developing my creative practice and shifted my focus onto the human form. I enjoyed experimenting with shapes and forms to create loose representations of the figure being formed and lost within the environment. Like many of us I felt very separated from society through lockdown during the covid crisis and a lot of these feelings were explored in these pieces. More examples of this work can be found here.

In 2023 I continued developing my practice from 2022 and pushed the figurative elements of my work focusing more on three dimensional shapes. Working form life drawing I would base a lot of my paintings of sketches from these sessions which added a more raw and personal feeling with each piece. Examples of this work can be found here.
